The San Marzano tomato is a delicate, thin-skinned tomato that retains its flavor for a long time even when stored, but must be handled with care. Grown in the extremely fertile soil, primarily around Naples in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area, in the province of Salerno, it is recognized by the DOP (Protected Designation of Origin). Peeled, its skin removed, it is preserved in a smooth San Marzano juice, ideal for making delicious sauces and even for enjoying a delicious spaghetti dish, even plain, enhanced by a generous sprinkling of fragrant basil.
