Cascina Oschiena - Ermes Whole Grain Rice

Ermes Whole Grain Rice is a variety with elongated grains.

The red anthocyanins , contained in the external part of the grain, give the natural red colour and the excellent antioxidant properties.

Ermes Integrale rice is ideal for a healthy and balanced diet: it has a high content of fibre, vitamins, proteins and mineral salts .

In mechanical processing (hulling) the peripheral layers and the germ of the grain are maintained.

It is a rice with a delicate aroma, ideal for enjoying in salads or paired with fish, meat, cheeses, or even simply boiled and seasoned with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

Cooking time 35-40 minutes.

Oschiena Farmhouse

Cascina Oschiena adopts an agricultural approach oriented towards sustainability, the protection of biodiversity and authentic food quality . Its guiding principles are based on a precise idea: the farmer is not only a food producer, but also a active custodian of the landscape and nature .

Certified cultivation and varieties

The farmhouse cultivates exclusively authentic rice varieties , registered in the Register of Classic Rice Growers . This means that it uses original seeds (not equivalent varieties or modern crosses), such as the Classic Carnaroli and the Arborio Classico , selected for their organoleptic quality and cooking resistance. The varieties are sown in purity, with a strong commitment to the conservation of agricultural biodiversity .

Sustainable agriculture

Since 2016 Cascina Oschiena has converted its practices to reduce environmental impact, embracing a model of regenerative agriculture :

• Responsible use of pesticides , only when strictly necessary.

• Techniques of integrated pest management against insects and pests, exploiting natural antagonists.

• Reduction in water consumption, also thanks to more efficient irrigation systems.

Biodiversity conservation

A significant portion of the estate has been transformed into a permanent Natural Oasis . Over 25 hectares of agricultural land have been renaturalized:

• planting of more than 5,000 native trees and hedges ,

• recovery of natural springs ,

• creation of permanent wetland habitats to encourage the nesting of rare species such as the Black-tailed Godwit .

The company is located in the The "Risaie Vercellesi" SPA (Special Protection Area) , a Natura 2000 network, is the only site in Italy where the black-tailed godwit nests permanently. This bird's image also appears in the company logo.

Energy and resources

Oschiena uses renewable energy (photovoltaic, heat pump) and focuses on a circular and efficient management of resources, to minimize the ecological footprint throughout the production cycle.

Certifications and guarantees

The entire production is certified “Friend of the Earth,” an international standard that certifies the environmental and social sustainability of agricultural activity. This includes:

• respect for soil and water,

• protection of workers' rights,

• transparency towards the consumer.
