'A Vita - Calabria IGP “Il Rosso” 2021
'A Vita - Calabria IGP “Il Rosso” 2021
A vibrant red wine, with a full flavor and a savory finish, 93% Gaglioppo, softened and refreshed by a small percentage of Magliocco. The grapes are grown in the Sant'Anastasia and Muzzunetto vineyards in Cirò Marina. Maceration for 36 hours, spontaneous fermentation by indigenous yeasts and aging in steel for one year.
'A Vita was born thanks to Francesco de Franco and his wife Laura, who in 2008 decided to dedicate themselves to viticulture in the Cirò area.
The winery is located in Cirò Marina, Crotone, on the Ionian coast of Calabria and extends for 8 hectares between Cirò and Cirò Marina. The hectares of vineyards are divided between 4 vineyards: Muzzunetto, Sant'Anastasia, Fego and Frassà.
Vigna Muzzunetto, mainly exposed to the North, hosts the oldest vines, planted since 1967 on clayey-marly soil. From here the grapes destined for the reserve are harvested. In 2017, a part of the vineyard of 1 hectare destined for Mantonico, a native Calabrian white grape variety, was restructured.
In 2020, a small 60-year-old bush-trained vineyard from Gaglioppo (Vigna del Noce) was added.
The Fego vineyard is located closer to the sea, on flat land and gives the grapes a characteristic flavor. From here, the Gaglioppo grapes destined for the production of Cirò Rosato are harvested.
The Sant'Anastasia vineyard, whose homonymous hill represents one of the most suitable areas for the production of Cirò, is located in the lowest part of the hill, characterized by large temperature variations and very concentrated grapes. Here the Gaglioppo grapes destined for the Cirò classico superiore are harvested.
In the vineyard, certified organic farming is followed and only sulphur, copper and natural agents are used, while the soil is enriched with green manure.
